Alonia is a village in the Pieria regional unit, in the municipality of Pydna-Kolindrou. The village's central church is dedicated to Saint Panteleimon and celebrates its feast day on July 27. The event's purpose is for participants to enjoy the area's natural beauty along the course and experience the village's Pontic hospitality, as the race is a sporting celebration for the village and its residents. Venue: Alonia central square (start-finish). Entry fee: 10€ (includes technical t-shirt, finisher medal, on-course hydration, and post-race buffet prepared by village women). Registration opens July 10; closes August 27 at 22:00; race-day registration is not normally offered, but late entries may be accepted if bib numbers remain available. Saturday 29/8/2026 schedule: 17:00-18:20 bib pickup at the village's central square, 18:30 10K race start, 18:45 children's 500m race, 20:30 awards ceremony. Course description: the entirely asphalt, circular course is of medium difficulty, with no steep climbs or descents and 280m of elevation gain, ideal for the average runner. The start is at the village square, in front of the statue, heading towards Kitros. At 200m runners turn right through the village towards the village of Koukos. At 3.7km they reach the Sevastis-Koukos provincial road, where the 1st water station is located, turn right and head to the village of Koukos, where the 2nd water/soft drinks station is at the village square at 6km. Runners then turn right and after 1.5km pass through one of Greece's largest photovoltaic parks; at 7.5km they reach the Alonia-Palaiostani provincial road, turn right, and after 2.5km finish at Alonia village square. The course is panoramic, with views from almost every point in the village of the Thermaic Gulf to the east, Mount Olympus to the south, the Pieria Mountains to the west, and Thessaloniki to the north. Maximum cutoff time: 1.5 hours; organizers will collect by vehicle any runner who has not reached the finish within the limit - anyone who declines to be collected continues at their own risk. Eligibility: open to athletes over 12 years old, running at their own risk; participants must have had a recent medical check-up and sign the liability waiver electronically during registration. Participants aged 12-16 must be accompanied by a parent at bib pickup. Medical coverage: first aid at the finish and along the course; an ambulance at the start/finish area; a defibrillator and first-aid station at the start/finish and another along the course. Awards: trophies for the top 3 men and top 3 women overall, plus age-group winners in categories 12-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ (1st: trophy and gold medal, 2nd: silver medal, 3rd: bronze medal); each category needs a minimum of 6 finishers per gender to be valid, and overall winners are excluded from age groups. All finishers receive a commemorative medal, and a buffet of local food will be offered by the village women. Technical regulations: participants must fully observe the race rules and organizers' instructions - non-compliance results in disqualification. Bib numbers must be worn visibly on the front of the shirt, unfolded, for the entire race. Course marking (ribbons every 50m, direction arrows, and km markers) is temporary and removed after the race. External assistance (food, clothing) and pacing by non-bib companions is allowed as long as it doesn't obstruct other runners; being accompanied by family in the final meters is allowed. GPS devices and mobile phones may be used. Littering along the course is strictly prohibited - waste must be disposed of in bins at the aid stations. Organizers reserve the right to modify the course or briefly postpone the start in case of hazardous weather, and to amend the rules without prior notice.
