This is the 17th edition of a race honoring lignite miners, jointly organized since 2009 by Spartakos and the Public Power Corporation (DEI). The course starts at the mining site, follows the Kozani-Ptolemaida national road through the city of Ptolemaida, and finishes at the miners' monument at the city's exit toward Florina - flat to gently downhill with three elevation changes, marked every 1km and GPS-measured. Athlete identification takes place from 06:00 at the finish area (Memories of Lignite square, by the Fire Academy); local runners are encouraged to check in early on October 2-3 (09:00-18:00) to ease congestion on race day. Buses to the half marathon start point depart at 07:45. Individual electronic chip timing is used. Water stations are at the start and every 5km along the course, with fruit, juice and water at the finish. Ambulances from DEI and EKAB, equipped with a defibrillator and medical staff, follow the runners. The right lane from Kozani to Ptolemaida is closed to traffic for the race. After the finish, a memorial service (Trisagio) is held for miners who lost their lives, followed by awards: top 3 overall finishers, top 3 women, and a special category for athletes with disabilities and their companions. Participants under 18 need parental consent. Accommodation can be arranged for athletes traveling more than 300km, for the night of Saturday, October 3.
